This Privacy Policy describes how Wake ("Wake," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and shares information when you use our mobile application, website, or related services (collectively, the "Service"). By using the Service you agree to the practices described here.
Wake is operated by Timothy Emrich. If you have questions about this policy or about how your data is handled, contact us at support@joinwake.app.
1. Information We Collect
We collect the following categories of information:
- Account information. Email address, display name, and (optionally) profile photo when you create an account.
- App usage data. Content you create inside Wake — including habits you track, journal entries, workout and run logs, breathwork and meditation sessions, alarm settings, and streak history.
- Health and fitness data (HealthKit). If you grant permission, Wake reads or writes health and fitness data via Apple HealthKit (for example, workout duration, distance, heart rate, mindful minutes). HealthKit data is handled under the rules described in Section 4 below and never used for advertising.
- Accountability data. If you connect an accountability partner, the partner can see the specific habits, streaks, and check-ins you choose to share — nothing else.
- Device and technical data. Device model, operating system version, app version, time zone, language, and anonymized crash logs. Used to keep the app stable and compatible.
- Subscription data. If you subscribe, Apple In-App Purchase processes the transaction. Wake receives a confirmation that your subscription is active but never sees your payment card or billing address.
- Pre-launch email signups. If you submit your email on joinwake.app before launch, we store it solely to notify you when Wake is available. After launch, we will use these emails only to send you a launch notification. If you do not create a Wake account within 90 days of launch, we will delete the email from our records unless you have explicitly opted in to receive future Wake updates.
2. How We Use Your Information
- To operate, maintain, and improve the Service.
- To deliver the features you choose to use (habit tracking, journaling, alarms, accountability, etc.).
- To respond to support requests and communicate important service updates.
- To prevent fraud, abuse, and violations of our Terms of Service.
- To comply with legal obligations and respond to lawful requests.
We do not use your personal data to train third-party machine learning or advertising models, and we do not sell your information.
3. How We Share Information
Wake does not sell user data. We share information only in these limited cases:
- Service providers. With vendors that help us operate the Service, bound by contract to use the data only on our behalf. Current categories of providers include: web hosting (Vercel), product analytics (PostHog), crash reporting (Firebase Crashlytics), and email infrastructure (Google Workspace). We may add or change providers over time and will update this list when material changes occur.
- Accountability partners you choose. Only the specific habits, streaks, or check-ins you opt to share are visible to partners you connect to.
- Legal requirements. If required by law, court order, or valid government request.
- Business transfers. If Wake is acquired or merged, your information may transfer to the successor entity, subject to this Privacy Policy.
4. HealthKit Data
Health and fitness data accessed via Apple HealthKit is subject to additional protections:
- Wake reads or writes only the HealthKit data types you explicitly authorize.
- HealthKit data is used solely to provide features inside Wake (for example, logging a run or recording a meditation session). It is never used for advertising or marketing.
- HealthKit data is never sold, traded, or rented to any third party.
- HealthKit data is never shared with accountability partners unless you explicitly choose to share a specific summary.
- You can revoke HealthKit access at any time in the iOS Health app under Sources → Wake.
5. iOS Permissions
Wake requests the following iOS permissions to deliver its features:
- Notifications. Required for alarms, habit reminders, and accountability partner notifications. You can change notification permissions at any time in iOS Settings → Notifications → Wake.
- Critical Alerts. Used only for user-set morning alarms to ensure the alarm sounds reliably even when Do Not Disturb is active. Not used for any other notification type. You can change this in iOS Settings.
- HealthKit. Required only if you choose to track workouts, runs, breathwork, or meditation sessions integrated with Apple Health. See Section 4 for details.
You may decline or revoke any of these permissions at any time. Some features may not work fully without their corresponding permission.
6. Children's Privacy
Wake is not directed to anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If we learn that we have collected information from a person under 18, we will delete it promptly. Parents or guardians who believe their child has provided information to Wake should contact support@joinwake.app.
7. Data Retention
We keep your account information and content for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, we delete or irreversibly anonymize your personal data within 30 days, except where retention is required by law (for example, tax records). Anonymous, aggregate data may be retained for analytics indefinitely.
8. Security
We use industry-standard administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect your information, including encryption in transit (HTTPS/TLS) and at rest. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure; we cannot guarantee absolute security. In the event of a data breach affecting your personal information, we will notify you promptly as required by applicable law.
9. Your Rights
You may at any time:
- Access the personal data we hold about you.
- Correct inaccurate information.
- Delete your account and the data associated with it.
- Export your data in a portable format.
- Withdraw HealthKit permissions in iOS Settings → Health → Sources → Wake.
To exercise any of these rights, contact support@joinwake.app. Depending on your jurisdiction (for example, EEA, UK, California) you may have additional rights under applicable law.
10. International Users
Wake is operated from the United States. If you use the Service from outside the U.S., your information may be transferred to, stored in, and processed in the U.S. By using the Service, you consent to this transfer.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If changes are material, we will notify you within the app and update the "Last Updated" date above. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.
